A Mother’s Love Knows No Age: 107-Year-Old Gives Candy to Her 84-Year-Old Daughter

No matter how old we are, we will always be our parents’ child.

This sentiment is beautifully captured in a heartwarming moment between an 84-year-old great-grandmother and her 106-year-old mother. The elderly daughter beamed with childlike joy after receiving a sweet treat from her mother—a touching gesture that has melted the hearts of millions on Chinese social media.

The scene was filmed last Sunday in Longtang, Minquan County, Henan Province, by a neighbor, Yang Gengsheng. According to Mr. Yang, the centenarian, Mrs. Wuyang, had attended a wedding that day and brought back a handful of nuptial candies.

Mrs. Wuyang’s daughter, Yang Chengzhi, had been unable to attend the wedding—hosted by the daughter of one of Mr. Yang’s friends—due to leg pain. Mrs. Wuyang, who went as a guest alongside Mr. Yang, asked the bride for some sweets to take home, and the bride happily agreed.

Upon returning, Mrs. Wuyang found Chengzhi sitting in the sun outside their home. Without hesitation, she reached into her pocket and handed her daughter a piece of candy, a simple yet profoundly moving act of love.

“I never expected she had asked for sweets just for her daughter—it was so touching,” Mr. Yang told Henan Daily.

Chengzhi, the elder of Mrs. Wuyang’s two daughters, is 84 years old, while her younger sister, Yang Dezhen, is 78. Their mother, widowed at 30, raised them both on her own.

Jia Shengxiu, Chengzhi’s brother-in-law, shared that the sisters take turns caring for their mother, who was born on March 19, 1913.

When asked about Mrs. Wuyang’s secret to longevity, Mr. Jia attributed it to her simple and content lifestyle.

“She doesn’t follow any special diet or take supplements—just three regular meals a day. She enjoys cleanliness, is kind to others, and isn’t picky about food,” he said.

One of her favorite pastimes is watching television.

“She often stays up until midnight watching TV, then goes to bed happily and sleeps soundly until the morning,” Mr. Jia added.
